ANIMAL SCIENTIST- CIENTIFICO ANIMAL
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Animal Scientist with a focus on hogs to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research, providing expertise, and developing strategies to improve the health, productivity, and overall well-being of pigs in a commercial setting. This role requires a deep understanding of animal genetics, nutrition, reproduction, and disease management, as well as the ability to implement innovative approaches to optimize hog farming operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Animal Health & Welfare: Monitor the health and well-being of pigs, identifying potential issues and implementing strategies for disease prevention and treatment. Ensure compliance with animal welfare standards and regulations.

Research & Development: Conduct research on hog genetics, nutrition, breeding, and reproduction. Analyze data and work to develop improved practices for hog farming operations.

Nutrition & Feeding Practices: Evaluate and recommend appropriate nutrition and feeding strategies for different stages of hog growth. Develop nutritional plans to optimize growth rates, feed efficiency, and overall pig performance.

Disease Management & Biosecurity: Implement biosecurity measures and disease prevention strategies to minimize the risk of infectious diseases.

Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various research studies and farm operations. Provide reports and recommendations to improve the efficiency and profitability of the operation.

Collaboration: Work closely with veterinarians, farm managers, and other agricultural professionals to ensure the success of the hog farming operation. Participate in industry conferences and stay updated on the latest developments in hog science.
Qualifications:

Education:
-
A Bachelor's in Animal Science, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, or a related field.

Experience:

2+ year of experience working with hogs or in a related agricultural field

Knowledge of hog production systems, animal breeding, nutrition, and health management.

Skills & Knowledge:
-
Strong understanding of animal physiology, genetics, and breeding strategies.

Knowledge of modern farming practices and biosecurity protocols.

Proficiency in data collection and analysis.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Job Description
Great opportunity for Animal Scientists interested in working in the U.S. on a TN Visa. Only citizens of Canada and Mexico are eligible for the TN Visa Program.
POSITION TITLE: Animal Scientist
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Animal Scientist will be responsible for the overall care of the hogs that the company raises.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Sort culls and pigs, as well as load them and mark the largest pigs on all loads.

Ensure all pens have feed and water available, and that the feeding equipment is in working properly, as well as order and administer feed.

Move pigs to and from sick care pens as needed, perform timely administration of medications, including injections following animal health care protocols, and keep records of all medication usage.

Manage ruptures, hernias and prolapses, and treat minor injuries.

Perform euthanasia, castrations, and tail docking when necessary.

Communicate ventilation issues and keep accurate records of temperatures, as well as a daily fam checklist.

Follow all biosecurity SOPs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

An animal science, veterinary or similar degree is required.

1 to 3 years of experience with general animal care.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Agricultural backgrounds are preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas each varying in temperature, and other environment-specific atmospheres.
